Serrell, built by the Phoenixville Bridge Works and completed in 1873, for the Boston & New York Air Line Railroad (later leased and owned by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad). The bridge was 1380 feet long and 60 feet high and travels over the ravine of Flat Brook in East Hampton, Middlesex County, Connecticut. In 1911 it was determined that the bridge was not stable enough for the heavier trains of the time and the railroad filled in the trestle with sand and cinders. In 1986 the structure became part of the Air Line Rail Trail and added to the National Register of Historic Places. Note that the photograph is incorrectly identified as "Lyman Viaduct, Conn."
