Locomotive with 4-8-4 wheel arrangement (formerly Southern Pacific Railway locomotive 4449) steams through Mattawan (Fishkill), New York, on Conrail tracks. The American Freedom Train traveled around the United States from April 1975 to December 1976 in honor of the country's Bicentennial with ten cars holding historical documents and items. Visitors would view the documents when the train stopped at one of many stations on its route. When this photograph was taken the train was on its way to the Tarrytown, New York, railroad station.
