Biography/History

Leonard Krimerman was a Professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Connecticut from 1968 to 2012. He received his B.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell in 1955 and 1964 respectively. Len's research interests and scholarship include democracy studies and ecology; social science and autonomy; philosophy of work, healthcare and education. He helped build the Inner College, a leaderless anarchist experiment at the University of Connecticut from 1969-1975 and invented “zig zag” (in contrast with “straight arrow”) anarchism in 1980. He is also the co-founder of the GEO (Grassroots Economic Organizing) Collective, which produces a free, online publication, as well as ebooks, supporting solidarity and cooperative economies worldwide. Len has worked as a creative community building consultant since 1992 and helped develop several cooperative organizations in Eastern Connecticut since 1968. He now works with the Windham Hour Exchange, one of a multitude of newly formed time banks.
