Abstract
Record books of the Bartholomew Alpress & Company of Bristol, Connecticut. History

The Bartholomew Alpress & Company was a saw mill owned by  George W. Bartholomew and  A. F. Alpress in  Bristol, Connecticut. The mill was founded during the 1830s by Bartholomew and his brother-in-law Alpress, and they produced milled products for many of Bristol's carpenters and clockmakers.

Scope and Content Note

The Bartholomew Alpress & Company Records consist of account books and ledgers from the period of 1835 to 1846. The records contain ledgers documenting the company's accounts, both payable and receivable, and include an array of clients. Of the many clients listed in the account books are some of Bristol's numerous clockmakers, to include  Boardman & Wells,  Elisha Brewster,  Terry & Andrews, and  Seth Thomas. The mill produced many products, including (as documented by the records) laths, mahogany logs, planks, posts, rafters, sled runners, steeds, stone boats, and other timber products.
