Show moreSite C: There were two transects in this site, each with 10 quadrats. Surveyed by Capers and Slack. Location: On west side of Alpine Garden Trail in Alpine Garden. Top of transect is at: 44°16’22.6" N, 71°17'38.7" W. Elevation: 5426 feet. Originally believed to be a snowbed, this site was treated as a rill after ordinations placed it with other rills, based on community composition. It was found to be on the same stream as Site G, but upstream. This is part of the data set that provides quantitative data on the abundance and frequency of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens which are lacking for snowbed and rill communities above treeline in northeastern North America. Such data are needed to establish whether the communities are changing in response to climate warming, nitrogen deposition, or shifts in the timing of precipitation and snowmelt. Show less
