Show moreSite D: This is the snowbed where snow remains latest in year, north of Site H, and high on the east side of the summit cone, near its southern end. Although snow was gone when this survey was done, the area remained very wet, with water running downslope in some places in small rivulets. Position was recorded as: 44°16’02.7" N, 71°17'55.0" W. Elevation: 5562 feet. Surveyed by Capers and Cogbill 29 June 2012. This transect has 10 quadrats. This is part of the data set that provides quantitative data on the abundance and frequency of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens which are lacking for snowbed and rill communities above treeline in northeastern North America. Such data are needed to establish whether the communities are changing in response to climate warming, nitrogen deposition, or shifts in the timing of precipitation and snowmelt. Show less
