The site has one transect, with 10 quadrats. It is on the east side of the Alpine Garden Trail in the Alpine Garden, Mount Washington, N.H. This snowbed is farther east in the Alpine Garden than other sites. The top of the transect is at: 44°16'14.0" N, 71°17'34.1" W. Elevation: 5316 feet. The transect is nearly level, running from just 1 m E of the Alpine Garden Trail to a point 10 m to the east. The site was very wet, with water running through 1 m to south. This is part of the data set that provides quantitative data on the abundance and frequency of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens which are lacking for snowbed and rill communities above treeline in northeastern North America. Such data are needed to establish whether the communities are changing in response to climate warming, nitrogen deposition, or shifts in the timing of precipitation and snowmelt. Show less
