The swimming pool at the Old Farms Convalescent Hospital opened on November 24th.


A number of people in town had telephones installed, during the war it was “practically impossible” to have done.


PFC “Sonny” Scanlon wrote for some information on benefits for Connecticut Veterans.


Robert Wilcox, F 1/c sent the Editor an application for membership in the Avon Fire Department.


T/4 Jack Scoville sent a letter from India and it only took 6 days to reach Avon.


2nd Lt. Betty Woodruff, ANC was working in a hospital outside Manila that had some prisoners of war from Japan as patients. -- They had “interesting though horrible” stories to tell.


Major George Redwood Anderson was promoted to a Major on Okinawa.


Edward Dawson was now MM 2/c.


The National Security Board of the United States Office of Civilian Defense and a 4th Army-Navy “E” were presented in a double ceremony to the Ensign-Bickford Company and its employees.


The newly-formed Post 3273, Veterans of Foreign Wars had elected it members. -- The installation of officers was a big event for veterans to attend in uniform with dancing and refreshments that was open to the public. -- 42 members in the Post and all veterans were encouraged to get in touch with an officer upon discharge. -- Avon residents who were employees at Old Farms Convalescent Hospital were Ray Zacchera (now a civilian), Dorothy M. Lynch


All blinded men at Old Farms Convalescent Hospital would spend Christmas with their families. -- Pre-Christmas celebration would include a party and dance sponsored by the New Haven Red Cross.


Football games have been a great past time of the blinded men and they had attended all of Yale’s games.


Raymond Zacchera had continued his work as supervising instructor of industrial skills in wood working at Old Farms Convalescent Hospital.


The last page of the Newsletter had the Honor Roll for the Town of Avon for World War II as of November 27, 1945 including those who were deceased(*), discharged(**), and missing(***),with the following symbols indicating who was as such.
