Show moreThis issue of Contact from October, 1975 features articles on the student protests of April, 1974, including updates on the university’s subsequent actions and the support still needed for minority communities on campus, particularly Puerto Rican students. The issue also highlights organizations at UConn, including the Office of Minority Affairs and the Third World Students Union, and provides information about the election of two students to the UConn Board of Trustees. There is an “open forum” section with short pieces reflecting student concerns; poetry by Jerry Wade, Evelyn Martinez, and R.N. Leyhow; and a short piece of fiction by Steve Fortes. In addition, there is a list of upcoming music by the Black Community Coordinators, a description of the musical performance of Universal Black Force, and an announcement of the production of the play “Day of Absence.” This issue also includes a piece about the NAACP in Connecticut, an article decrying the arrest of black activist Martin Sostre, and a letter by prisoner Michael Denson.
