Access and Use

Acquisition Information

The album was purchased from a dealer in September 2013.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open and available for research. The album itself is in poor condition -- the black album pages are very brittle and flaky. The photographs, though, are in good to excellent condition. Most of the photographs are pasted to the album pages, which often provide caption information. Some of the photographs have separated from the paper and are loose within the album. Many of these have a thin sheet of mounting tissue on the back but surface is not sticky and it appears that the tissue is protecting the photograph from the glue that is between it and the photograph.

The album was stabilized by the UConn Libraries' Preservation Librarian in Fall 2013 and returned to Archives & Special Collections in January 2014.

Researchers must use caution and care when turning the pages of the album. They must wear gloves and all copying, including self-service copying, can only be done after consultation with the curator or reference desk staff.
