Norrris Bull Collection

In the early and mid-20th century, Norris Bull developed one of the largest Native American artifact collections from the state of Connecticut. The collection includes over 8,000 specimens representing people of the state from 12,000 years ago to the historic period. In addition, the collection contains the largest comparative sample of Connecticut Native American stone bowls and mortars, reconstructed pottery vessels, and groundstone tools in a single location. Bull donated to the collection to the University of Connecticut in 1963. This donation led to the hire of Doug Jordan, Connecticut’s first State Archaeologist and to the development of the archaeology program at UConn.
