Loring Collection

1962 (year approximate) to 1963
The Loring Collection of photographs documents the exterior and interior of the Hartford Public High School Hopkins and Broad Street buildings, which were located on Asylum Hill. The collection is one of a number of collections and items housed in the Hartford Public High School Museum & Archive. The museum opened in 2007, as a result of efforts by the Hartford Public High School History Project to preserve and make accessible the school’s history, which can be traced back to the 17th century. The Hopkins Street building was erected in 1883 and enlarged in 1897; at the same time, a manual training building was added to the school. The Broad Street building was erected in 1914 and enlarged in 1917; it housed business and industrial courses. The school complex was demolished in 1963 to make way for the construction of I-84.
