Description
Letter addressed from Huntingdon, with a stamped postmark in black ink and the date written by hand in red ink. The paper is torn where it was sealed with red wax. John G. Miles, an attorney hired by Jonathan Butler, writes in response to a letter from Jonathan about a legal dispute in Huntingdon involving his son William Gay Butler, his business partner John Boyd, and Jeremiah Cunningham, the constable of Warrior's Mark. The case cannot go to court until at least the August term. Miles writes that the outlook is better now than when Jonathan visited, because in perusing the accounts current relevant to the case, he discovered an error in Jonathan's favor of $1314.14. He has written to William Gay Butler asking for an explanation and pointing out the error to him. He has also written to George Wells, Jonathan's son-in-law in Brownhelm, Ohio. He says he will write to Jonathan again when he hears from them or else when the case is scheduled.
