Description
Letter addressed from Hartford to Messrs. Boyd and Butler in Williamsburg, Huntingdon County, PA, with a postmark stamped in red ink including the date. The paper is torn and red wax residue remains where it was sealed. Jonathan Butler writes to John Boyd on receipt of his letter and one from his son William Gay Butler. The letter from William contained a draft for $870 and recounted several events affecting his business. William indicated he would write again with further details and a draft for $200 to meet the payment required for a note that came due on October 19. Jonathan has not heard from William again, and writes to inform Boyd that the note never reached him. A few days ago, Jonathan spoke with a Mr. Clark from Hartford who reported seeing William in Buffalo at the beginning of November and headed to Williamsburg in good health. Jonathan asks Boyd to write him immediately regarding the missing draft or to have William write if he is present. In closing he notes that he has paid the note off at the bank, and in a post script reminds them to direct their letters to the West Hartford post office.
