Description
This blueprint is one of several copies made by George W. Coy (1836-1915) as part of his effort to patent his switchboard. It was made a few months after the initial installation of the equipment. Coy established the New Haven District Telephone Company on January 28, 1878, which is known as the first commercial telephone company in the world. In 1882 the company changed its name to the Southern New England Telephone Company and served telephone subscribers in Connecticut until 1998.
