Batch Upload Children

After creating a paged content, publication issue, or compound object, or collection you can use the +Batch Upload Children option to add multiple objects as children. This process is best used for objects which need minimal metadata (like pages) and is used alongside Batch Update Records to create and update records all without using the more complex spreadsheet ingest process. Include below are the steps to add children as a batch to a parent object.

  1. Once the parent record is created, we are ready to begin adding child objects by clicking the "Children" menu link.

  2. Click the "+Batch Upload Children" button.

  3. From the Type Selection page select as the Content Type "Repository Item".

  4. Next, click the Model dropdown and select Page, Image or other appropriate model type you will be adding in multiples to this record.

  5. Click the Media Type drop down and select the appropriate media type. If you are uploading pages that are scanned .tiff, .jp2, .jpeg files you would select Image.

  6. Click "Original File" as this will ensure that a service file and thumbnail are created upon ingest.

  7. Once all selections have been made click the "Next" button.

  8. From the "Add a new file" field, click "Choose Files" button and select the files you wish to add as children to this record.

  9. Click the "Alternative text" field for each media file uploaded and enter a value. In this example I chose to enter Page 1. Continue down the list to enter values in each of the Alternative text fields. You can also rearrange the objects to ensure they are in the proper order.

  10. When all alternative text values have been added, click the "Finish" button.

  11. After ingest you may see some validation errors. The next series of steps will help us to resolve those errors.

  12. Click "View" to verify the children were added to the parent object as expected.

The next steps are crucial to ensuring all required fields have been populated for these child records we just added.

  13. Next, we need to add values for the Rights Statement and Held By fields which are required in the CTDA. To do this, we will click on the "Groups" icon.

  14. Click the name of your group.

  15. Click "Your Metadata Records".

  16. Click "Batch Update Records".

  17. Use the checkboxes to select the child records you just added to the CTDA.

  18. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and from the Action drop down click "Modify field values".

  19. Next, click the "Apply to select items" button.

  20. Next, click the "Rights Statement" and "Held By" fields toggle buttons to turn those green.

  21. Click the "Rights Statement" field and select the appropriate option.

  22. Click the "Held By" field and select your organization name.

  23. Click the "Apply" button.

  24. Click the "Execute action" button to start the batch update records processes.

  25. Once complete, double-check to see if your records were updated. From your Group click "Your Metadata Records".

  26. Click the hyperlinked title of the object or the Edit button.

  27. Verify the Held By and Rights Statement fields have been populated. Congratulations you have successfully added multiple items via +Batch Upload Children!
